In the past mysticism and asceticism often have been counterparts in Christian theology, either - or! But the two important dimensions of spirituality belong together. They are two sides of the same coin and it may be dangerous to separate the two. In these lectures we will look at different schools of mysticism in our tradition as well as the theology of asceticism as a way of a “Christian lifestyle”, as the “art of Christian life”. What are the different theological approaches? What does it mean today to live the Christian art of life including the dimension of mysticism?
There will be a written test at the end of the course.
