Summary — The author investigates within the controversial writings of Erasmus of Rotherdam against Luther (1524-1527) traces of the Fathers of the Church, who exercised a greater influence on the Dutch humanist: Origen and Augustine. Strong is the influence emanating from the anthropological motives of Origen, but it must be admitted that even Augusti-nianism makes its own repercussions through its concept of grace, to such extent that one cannot impute any accusation of pelagianism to Erasmus, even though he cannot certainly be recognised as a very genuine representative of Augustinianism.
