The history of the church is a long history of leadership and management. The religious orders developed different ways of dealing with leadership which they expressed in specific written rules. Many of these principles are relevant and important for management and leadership today, even in a non-religious context. There are many parallels, but also differences between the ways of the church and orders and the modern management theories and practics. Both, management theories and spirituality, could learn from each other. Corporate Health Care Management or Change Management for example without a certain type of Spirituality often fail. Spiritual leadership and direction without management skills often do not achieve anything.
This course will attempt to explain the relationship between Spirituality and management on the basis of both the great rules of the orders and modern management theories.
