On August 29, 2020, Professor Martín Carbajo Núñez, OFM, will lead a retreat that will be inserted in the program of ongoing formation for deacons and their wives in the Diocese of Sacamento, USA. The meeting, originally planned at
Zephyr Point on
Lake Tahoe, will finally be held online because of the Covid-19 epidemic. Prof. Carbajo will give four talks on the theme of "The Way of Beauty". The other speaker will be Mr. Mary Beth Ingham, who teaches with Prof. Carbajo at the FST, affiliated with the University of San Diego. In the presentation of the meeting, the part assigned to Prof. Carbajo is described as follows:
“Human beings can love only beautiful things,” affirmed Saint Augustine. Indeed, the way of beauty is “a particularly meaningful way of expressing spirituality and a particularly effective path of the new evangelization” (Synod 2012). Indeed, an evangelization without beauty does not attract or excite people.
We will reflect on the need to further develop this Way of Beauty (“
via pulchritudinis”) and our mystical and contemplative capacity. Without them, religion becomes ideology and the Church may seem to be a simple NGO.
