On September 7 and 8, 2023, Prof.
Martín Carbajo Núñez will participate as a keynote speaker at the
V International Congress on Bioethics, organized by the San Buenaventura University of Colombia since 2010. This edition will be held in Cartagena and will have as its general theme: "Bioethical challenges of current humanitarian crises in times of uncertainty". Prof. Carbajo will speak on the theme: "Ecological crisis, education and Franciscan spirituality. Being a Franciscan educator today".
The general objective of the Congress is to "generate an interdisciplinary dialogue and an academic space for analysis and debate that will make it possible to put forward reflections, alternatives and proposals that will make it possible to face the bioethical challenges of current humanitarian crises in times of uncertainty".
There will be three specific objectives:
1) To make an interdisciplinary approach to the different humanitarian crises and their interconnection as pressing concerns of contemporary bioethics.
2) To strengthen at the international level, from the Franciscan academic initiative based on the approaches of the discipline of bioethics, a space that allows to discuss and contribute to the solution of the global crisis and the defense of life.
3) To understand how, from an ethical and bioethical point of view, global problems are deeply connected, generating mutual affectations that require systematic intervention.
There will be four working groups:
1) Bioethics, Education and human development
2) Science and biotechnologies
3) Environment, territory, ethnic diversity and biocultural resources.
4) Bioethics and health.
Prof. Carbajo had already participated in the
V Congress on Bioethics, organized by the same university in Cali (Colombia), on 6-7 September 2017. Previously, i
n 2012, he had several formative meetings with the friars and, in addition, some conferences at the four sites of the University of San Buenaventura.
