On May 7, 2024, at the Gregorian University in Rome, Prof. Martín Carbajo Núñez will give a lecture on the theme: "Leadership in the Church today". In his speech, prof. Carbajo will be accompanied by Dott. Katarzyna Parzych-Blakiewicz. Together, they will develop the theme: "The charism of holiness of Cardinal Stanislaw Hosius as patron of modern times: for priests, hierarchs, teachers of faith". Prof. Carbajo will focus more on the leadership model, trying to answer the question: "What model of hierarchy is needed today in the Catholic Church? The leader should be a "teacher of faith", "pastoral", "educator"? Instead, Dott. Katarzyna Parzych-Blakiewicz will present Cardinal Hozjusz as a candidate for the altars and will try to underline the relevance of his example and patronage for today’s world?
The year 2024 marks the 520th anniversary of the birth and the 445th anniversary of the death of Cardinal Stanisław Hozjusz, Bishop of Warmia, whose mortal remains are buried in the Basilica of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Trastevere. Wishing to recall this extraordinary figure who played an outstanding role in the history of the universal Church and the Republic of Poland, as well as the presence of the Society of Jesus in Warmia, the Faculty of Theology of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn together with the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome organizes a scientific conference entitled: "Cardinal Stanislaw Hosius – theologian, humanist, diplomat and candidate for the altars".
The initiative was inspired by the Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the Holy See, Mr. Adam Kwiatkowski, who wants to take the patronage over it and take part in it. Archbishop Józef Górzyński, Metropolitan of Warmia and the Great Chancellor of the Faculty of Theology of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, also announced his participation. The conference will take place on May 7, 2024 in the building of the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, to which historians, theologians, political scientists and lawyers from Poland and Italy will be invited.
