Summary: Among the many questions proposed by Indian Theology, the author is particularly interested in the possible institution of autonomous Churches. Within a historic panorama, the article describes the nature of such Churches in the light of proposals offered by theologians concerned with the project, demonstrating the risks involved. The conclusion favors the need for inculturation, peculiar to that theology, and warns of certain pending problems.
