Summary: The aim of this article is to describe and explain the definition of contingency according to Gregory of Rimini (around 1300-1358). This definition is inserted into the broad context that characterizes the time culture from the innovating contributions of Duns Scotus, of the Franciscans of the first quarter of the 14th century and of the Hermitians of the second quarter of that same century in divine and human free power. So, the contingency from physic-statistic seems to become metaphysic-utrumlibetal and the rule of the human being as principle of will and freedom is deeply accentuated.
