SUMMARY: This article outlines the religious policy of Emperor Justinian making use of documents which ambassadors brought to Rome during his reign (527-565). These documents enable us to discover the reason for changes in Byzantine policy concerning events at a time when the government in Constantinople was committed to reconquering the Italian peninsular with the goal of restoring the ancient glories of the Roman Empire in the face of Barbarian opposition.
