Summary. — Pope Pius II, in 1462, initiated the «communication of privileges », in order to give to the Congregation of the Olivetani Benedictines all the same privileges of the Benedictine Congregation of St. Justina of Padua. Sixtus IV (1471-1484) then applied the « communication of privileges » to the Mendicants: the Dominicans, Franciscans, Augustinian Hermits, Carmelites, etc., and the respective nuns and Third Orders. Leo X, in 1519, further extended the communication of these privileges. Now each Mendicant Order without distinction received all the privileges of the other Mendicant Orders.
