Summary: This study shows that the first words addressed by Jesus to Nicodemus in Jn 3,1-3 are not so much a logical answer to a question, which it appears is missing, as they are a reference to a situation of fact — that of the unbelieving Jews — from which the Lord wishes to raise those caught up in it to a higher supernatural plane, on which plane alone can there be true knowledge of the Messiah.
