Summary: The German Constitution guarantees the Churches the right of self-governance, a right that includes the autonomous regulation and administration of their own affairs. In recent years, the Churches have issued new norms on labour relations, and have reorganised their own labour tribunals. Still it is possible for there to be divergences between the ecclesiastical and civil legal orders, to which the solutions are not yet definitively clear.
