Summary — The article avails itself of the actual research on the history of Israel to demonstrate in what sense the biblical texts can make some contribution. In order to explain better his opinion, the author selects as background of his study the Book- of Ezechiel and, more precisely, the semantic extension which the name of Israel assumes in it. The conclusions are valid not only to the exegetical scholar and the historian, but also to the teologian.
