Summary — This work presents an examination of the principal aspects of the debate, always actual, on the teaching of philosophy as a formative value: on the basis of some writings particularly relevant to this purpose, an attempt is made to sum up the most valid elements and recommend them to the consideration of students and teachers of philosophy alike. A test is made on the problem of method in the teaching of philosophy and also on the problem of dialogue in philosophy. The whole question is then analysed in the light of Vatican Council II and a prospective solution of synthesis is offered in connection with the reform of secondary schools.
