Summary: The present article takes as starting point a proposal of Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini regarding the correlation between the affective maturity of consecrated celibacy and Marian devotion. The article sets out to develop an interdisciplinary argument in that sense with an argument drawn from the human sciences and by a theological reflection. After considering together the magisterium’s statements on consecrated celibacy and devotion to the Virgin Mary, it does more than draw a conclusion; it offers an hypothesis to verify in pursuing the correlation further.
